Bass Fishing Tip of the Week 02/23/2011: Big Baits for Big Bass

Have you ever had a day when all that you catch is a boatload of dinks? I believe most fishermen have experienced this at one time or another. There are several things you can do to increase your chances to catch larger bass but one of the best is to increase your bait size.

Increasing the size of your offering is not only more appealing to larger fish, it also is less likely to be attacked by the smaller fish. Here's some suggestions:

1- Go from a 6" worm to an 8" worm or larger.

2- Change your rattling bait to 1/2 oz or larger.

3- Use a 5" or larger jerk bait.

4- Move from the number 7 shadrap to a number 9 and crank a little slower.

5- Typically(not all the time) deep diving cranks increase with size for deeper depths. Go for the deeper divers.

6- Work the bigger baits slower.

Give these big bait lures a try and you just might see that lunker you were looking for.
