Bass Fishing Tip of the Week 10/10/08: Bass Fishing "On the Cheap"

Our economy is hurting, stock market is down, unemployment is up, foreclosures at all time highs and financial institutions are going under. As a bass fisherman it's getting real hard to go fishing and still put food on the table. Here's some tips to save some money so you can still enjoy your favorite past time.

- Stay close to home and fish some local waters. Learn your local lakes and rivers and save on gas and car/boat maintenance. You maybe surprised at how productive they are.

- Join a trail or club that fishes local lakes. You can still pay your entry fee and pay much less in fuel!

- Don't run and gun when fishing! Find a spot and fish it thoroughly (unless moneys on the line). Most of the time fishing a spot thoroughly in a one day event is a good way to make some money and keep you from going broke on fuel costs.

- Buy your tackle wisely! Find some good deals at internet stores on your personal favorites. Shy away from buying all those new fangled "gimmicks".

- Get a good fishing partner to share your expenses. This will probably be the biggest money saver of all.

- Fish local ponds from shore. Often these ponds are loaded with feeding fish and you may be surprised on the quality of fish in them.

- If your worm tears at the head instead of tossing it, bite the head off and reuse the worm.

- Use an alternative 2 cycle oil rather than your outboard brand. Just make sure it's meets the TCW3 rating or better. These oils are proven through testing to provide excellent protection.

- Don't re-spool your reels with new line as often. Just be sure to retie on every lure prior to your fishing outing.

- Buy your line in bulk such as 3000 yard spools. This is far cheaper than the 275 yard spools.

- Keep your car/truck tires properly inflated. This can give you a mile or two extra in your mpg.

- Keep your speeds down both on the road or on the water. Just a few mph less can give you a big bump in your mpg.

Try these money saving tips so you can do more fishing with less spending!
