Bass Fishing Tip of the Week 12/12/10: Fishermen's Christmas Gifts

Christmas shopping for fishermen can be a trying task. Why is that? Well many fishermen including me have probably purchased the things we like during the year including our favorite worms, crawfish imitators, crankbaits, topwaters, spinnerbaits, rods and reels. We use all of these during the year and buy them in different colors and styles during the year often in preparation for an upcoming tournament or fishing outing.

Lures don't make good gifts as many of them will sit in the tacklebox and never get used as most fishermen have their favorites and only try different lures on occasion.

So what can you get the typical bass fisherman that will surprise him? Here's a few things you might want to look at:

1- A long handled net that collapses so he can store it easily in the rod locker. The longer the better but don't sacrifice easy storage otherwise it will sit in the garage.

2- A new travel GPS like a TomTom or Garmin. Bass fishermen like to fish tournaments and these are nice for locating hotels, the boat ramp and gas stations.

3- A new heavy duty bass weigh in bag. Most bass fishing enthusiasts end up poking holes in theirs and purchasing a new one is often put on the back burner.

4- An electronic fish scale and cull system. A digital scale and culling bobbers are a great gift. Many times the existing one maybe on it's last legs.

5- New rainsuits are great. Buy a quality one. Frogtogs would be one I would like.

6- New expensive sunglasses. Buy a nice pair of quality polarized glasses and spend at least $60.

7- Fishing shirts, either T-shirts or some classy light weight cotton ones you see fishermen use on TV.

8- New fishing hats. Buy his favorite sports team.

Finally ask them if there is anything they want for fishing. You'll often be surprised at the list you get.

Until next time, have a Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year!
