Dock Tips

Docks are good all year long for bass in Florida. Look for docks that are in the deepest water (except when they are spawning) and cast or flip the pilings. My best luck has usually been the front edge pilings.

I prefer pitching the pilings vs. casting. It allows a quieter entry and more accuracy. The plastic worms Texas rigged are hard to beat. Pitch under the dock past the piling and work the worm into the piling. The closer you are to the piling, the closer you are to the basses strike zone. If you feel a bump, see the line twitch or have a mushy feeling in your rod, set the hook.

Another method that works well is skipping. Use a open faced spinning outfit for this and a sidearm presentation. This works well when the dock is long and has a limited amount of space between the water's surface and top of the dock. Start your sidearm cast, then hit the water at a low angle of attach i.e. almost parallel to the water's surface just before the front edge. This will cause the worm to skip under the dock. Just work the worm back to the boat as you normally would on Texas rigged baits.

If the lake has docks, give 'em a try on your next bass fishing trip.
