Freshwater fishing gear is used to catch many species of fish. Rods, reels,
lures and terminal tackle all provide the fishermen with a means to do more catching
with less fishing.
Most freshwater fishing gear is lighter and smaller than it's saltwater cousins.
This makes the catching more challenging and fun.
Lures for freshwater are different dpending on the species of fish you are
after. The largemouth bass dominates freshwater fishing in the USA and there is
a large variety of tackle just for this species. Some lures for bass are plastic
worms, jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, grubs, rattling crankbaits, jerkbaits and
topwaters.
Salmon and trout have their own line of tackle. Crankbaits, flies, trolling
plugs, spoons are all examples of lures for these species.
Northen pike are sought at by the northern fishermen. Spoons, trolling baits,
spiinerbaits, crankbaits are often used for these species.
The West - while not so wild anymore - is distinctly different than the East. The West's Japanese influence means they see the innovative baits and techniques of the Far East first.
