Baits and lures are necessary to attract a fishes attention and produce a
strike. Many tournaments throughout the USA only allow artificial lures as a
means to catch fish.
Specific species of freshwater fish require specific lures. The largemouth
bass fishermen often use the following types of lures: Spinnerbaits, crankbaits,
plastic worms, jigs, topwaters, jerkbaits, buzzbaits, rattling lures. The
plastic worm outfits requires several additional tackle elements including:
Hooks and bullet weights. An assortment of these lures is necessary for the
fisherman to adjust to a variety of weather conditions, water depth, structure,
water clarity and the prevalent bait fish species. See my sites at:
www.floridabassfishing.us or
www.floridabasslakes.com to get
tips on how and when to fish these lures.
Smallmouth bass often hit the same type of baits as largemouth bass, but
usually require smaller sizes.
Trout and salmon have their own preferences for baits/lures such as: Flies,
spoons, crankbaits, trolling plugs, etc.
Northern pike and musky like spoons, crankbaits, trolling plugs and
spinnerbaits as well as topwaters.
